COMPANY HISTORY
Amaranth Contemporary Dance emerged in 2006 as a vehicle for Scott Putman to explore and justify his philosophy that choreography is the art of shaping energy in space. With sold-out premiere performances of Experiment in White, Amaranth burst into the dance world, taking its first steps towards a promising journey as a national and internationally recognized dance company.

With energy and vitality unique to their work, Amaranth engages in diverse and challenging projects to continue its cultivation in craft and design while maintaining an excellence in choreography as well as the continual development as an effective and engaging artistic organization.

The company continues to build its audience by introducing and educating them about the passion and respect for dance, performance, and the vision that dance can be a catalyst for change, support and sustainability in their communities.

Building off the success of its premiere, the company currently focuses on expanding its repertoire and establishing its creative coffers. Through Planting the Seeds, Series of Solos, From the Past to the Future, The Elements, and Shaping Space Projects, Amaranth will present new works by it's artistic and associate artistic directors, dancers as well as acclaimed choreographers both nationally and internationally recognized in venues throughout the region as well as in venues across the country and abroad.

About the work
"Earth Above, Heaven Below"
Choreographed by Jill Brammer Ware
Performed by Jill Brammer Ware and Scott Putman
Music: Ezekiel Honig, Live on Percussion Lab

"Earth Above, Heaven Below" explores the balance of walking the middle ground between two souls seeking symphony in one another. Abandoning "I", the two synchronize their breath, cultivate their power and anchor their strength. They risk more and move further than they could have apart, and in their connection, heaven is found in the falling.

"Echo of a Secret Recess"
Choreographed and Danced by Scott Putman
Music: Child: II, Sweet Air, Carlo Boccadoro & Sentierri Selvaggi

"Echo of the Secret Recess" delves into the intimate immensity of possibility. Although the space and time for opportunity is narrow, the crack allows a vast expanse of possibility. It is moving within the moment and in the spaces between spaces that we find our ability to achieve the magic light of creation. It is listening to the vibrations and sensing the light that enables one to inhabit the poetic space of a doorway.
